Anything into Oil
Technological savvy could turn 600 million tons of turkey guts and other waste into 4 billion barrels of light Texas crude each year
By Brad Lemley
Photography by Tony Law

Gory refuse, from a Butterball Turkey plant in Carthage, Missouri, will no
longer go to waste. Each day 200 tons of turkey offal will be carted to the
first industrial-scale thermal depolymerization plant, recently completed in
an adjacent lot, and be transformed into various useful products, including
600 barrels of light oil.

In an industrial park in Philadelphia sits a new machine that can change
almost anything into oil.
Really.
“This is a solution to three of the biggest problems facing mankind,”
says Brian Appel, chairman and CEO of Changing World Technologies, the
company that built this pilot plant and has just completed its first
industrial-size installation in Missouri. “This process can deal with the
world’s waste. It can supplement our dwindling supplies of oil. And it can
slow down global warming.”
Pardon me, says a reporter, shivering in the frigid dawn, but that
sounds too good to be true.

So we were on our way back to Broward after seeing the lawyer today. I had smoked my last cigarette before arriving at the lawyers office; and I was dying at this point, and not just from the nicotine- it was freekin hot today..

SO got to the first convenient gas station/food mart. In the middle of the intersection in front of this gas station (we are on 163rd street and I forget what road) there was a man. This is not uncommon. This one was unusual because he didn’t have a piece of cardboard stating he needed work; or selling a newspaper or a homeless voice; or taking donations: this man was a handsome clean cut guy with good clothes on; running up and down the middle of the road, holding up high bottles of zephyrhills water. Ice cold zephryhills water. He was sellin em too.

I told SO it was time for him to get a second job; and I knew exactly what he could do.

Can you imagine; he gave me a dirty look? Go figure.

LONDON (Reuters) - The world’s first portable lavatory with internet access is due to be unveiled in Britain this summer.

The “iLoo” is being built by Microsoft Corp’s (NasdaqNM:MSFT - news) internet arm MSN which aims to showcase its creation at Britain’s summer music festivals.

“The internet is so much a part of everyday life now that surfing on the loo was the next natural step,” said MSN marketing manager Tracy Blacher on Tuesday.

The converted lavatory will feature a wireless (news - web sites) keyboard, plasma screen and quick internet access.

In 2001, MSN installed an internet-enabled park bench in Suffolk, eastern England.

<a href=

LONDON, England (CNN) — Iraq’s former information minister is set to cement the
cult status he won during the recent military conflict by featuring on a dance
track due to be released in Britain this month.

Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf became known as “Comical Ali” by appearing each day –
with trademark beret and smile — to emphatically deny events that viewers could
see unfolding on their televisions.
<lj-cut>
Speaking daily to the media until the fall of Baghdad, Sahaf regularly condemned
coalition forces and announced Iraq’s imminent victory.

At one point during the war, Sahaf went on the roof of the Palestine Hotel and
persisted with his denials, telling the world’s media that there were no
“infidels” in Baghdad. However, American troops and tanks could be seen a few
hundred yards away.

“I triple guarantee you, there are no American soldiers in Baghdad” he assured
reporters.

Record producers now hope to exploit the ex-minister’s fame by releasing a dance
track sampling some of his more colorful phrases such as his reference to U.S.
troops: “God will roast their stomachs in hell at the hands of Iraqis.” (Full
Story)

The song, called “I can’t believe what I’m hearing,” was written by songwriter
Alton Bryan and will be released in shops and clubs in two weeks.

It is predicted to follow Paul Hardcastle’s 1986 hit about the Vietnam war,
“19.”

“It is set to be massive,” executive producer Les Molloy told The Sun newspaper.

“There has already been a lot of interest from record stations and club DJs.”

Producers say if Sahaf fails to claim the percentage of the royalties to which
he is entitled they will be donated to an Iraqi children’s charity.

Sahaf is not on the U.S. military’s list of the 55 most wanted Iraqis but his
whereabouts are unknown.

The record is only the latest attempt to exploit Sahaf’s cult status. One spoof
Web site, welovetheiraqiinformationminister.com, sprang up only to be forced
offline by a global rush of visitors. About 4,000 Internet-users visited the
site per second, Reuters reported.

“Comical Ali” merchandise is also being sold over the Internet, including Action
Man-like dolls.

Sahaf has even been invited to join the Dubai-based Arabic television network,
al-Arabiya, as a commentator and analyst, the news agency added.</lj-cut>

Email ‘becomes huge burden’ to computer users

Researchers have concluded email has become an increasing burden on computer users - with the power to ruin their personal lives.

A study of 26,000 users claims to have found the existence of Pre and Post-Mail Tension, which derives from misunderstanding emails and the fear that private messages could be circulated around the office.

According to the Yahoo! Mail survey, 52% say they struggle to interpret personal emails, 12% admitted having an argument with a friend over an email misunderstanding, and 2% said they’d broken up with a partner over email misinterpretation.

Other findings include 28% live in fear of personal emails being sent to the boss by mistake, and 61% of workers are afraid of a friend forwarding personal emails which then spread like wildfire online.

<lj-cut>
Researchers say PPMT was noticeable amongst those who used email as a flirting tool.

Three-quarters of people questioned admitted to using email to impress people they fancy. Women even preferred to make the first contact with those they fancied by email.

The survey also revealed 64% had problems concentrating if waiting for an email reply from someone they liked, 51% wasted time constantly checking for a reply, and 35% confessed stalling while struggling and agonising over a witty reply to impress the recipient.

Helen Petrie, Professor of Human Computer Interaction at City University said: “The problem we have of PPMT revealed by these statistics is caused not by email itself, but how people let their anticipation and expectation get the better of them.”

Yahoo! Mail has set up an email masterclass microsite to educate users in how to avoid common pitfalls. he website is: yahoo.co.uk/emailmasterclass
