rant
I guess I should feel guilty. For not feeling like working after major surgery last week. It’s my day off; so I even
have better reason not to feel guilty. Actually; I do feel guilty about it; but I don’t feel well enough to work. M went
out of town this weekend, and took a redeye flight home so he’ll be too tired to work.
Note: m did not ask me if I would fill in for him today. And now; looking back; he didn’t request today, Monday off. So that lightens a bit of a load for me. I was thinking that today was the monday he won’t be here; but july 14 he won’t be here. He doesn’t ask that I cover the day only, and I quote:
My flight back to Atlanta is a red eye. I get back at 7am. So I’d like to request Monday, July 14th as well to recover.
unquote.
He learning a hard lesson. Back when we were discussing working at home; we were both given an equal opp to volunteer to work weekends. m can’t because “he doesn’t work weekends”. But now he has to work Mondays; which are busier than shit.
28 years old and doesn’t work weekends. Asshole. He doesn’t know what work is. Doesn’t he know he doesn’t get a choice?
Anyway; from having been in this business already; I know that weekends are generally slower than say Monday or Tuesday. So; I volunteered to work them. Mama dint raise no foo. This meant that I would start working from home first (I think the bosses were testing it). Working on weekends do have disadvantages.
They are:
Really noone around if we have serious issues. THis has not been a major glitch at all.
Sometimes you just don’t wanna work. However; this happens regardless of what day of the week it is.
Advantages are:
Things are generally pretty slow. People just aren’t aware that someone is there on weekends. My phone calls do not number more than 3; and it’s usually the same person all three times.
Even tickets are slow.
I don’t necessarily have to sit in front of the computer. I can hang out; I can watch movies; the list goes on. It’s wonderful.
And I don’t have to work Mondays. Mondays are fuckin busy: the phone rings off the hook and people choose to send in email after 5 pm on sunday; and it looks like Kurt doesn’t catch up until Tuesday; and he still leaves quite a bit he really shouldn’t leave.
I’ve learned something about m though; the last year or so:
If it actually requires work; more than a paragraph of typing; or actually requires troubleshooting; m doesn’t do it. He leaves it for me; or assigns it to me.
What; I get paid more?
He forgets he is tech support; and this is what tech support does. I’d love to see him doing what he does here at v. He would never last.
